Welcome Winter

Needles of pine quilt a soft warm blanket using
hushed hues of faded browns and yawning yellows
as Autumn prepares its winter bed

Northern vagabonds of wind and snow
whistle a warning lullaby of winter's approach
and Autumn falls asleep upon a soft white pillow

As a white blanket covers the land

these photos are from my winter archives, taken a previous time.

the sepia cone and leaves caught my eye immediately, and i love the softness of the snow in the 2nd picture. the merging footprints are intriguing.

You have such a way of capturing the feel of a scene or moment in words...your poetry is great1 I love the snow shot with the tracks :-)

Beautiful almost golden light in the top one. And the love the one of the tracks - two critters literally "crossing paths" - perhaps hours apart. Neat!

I love looking around in the snow and seeing what came earlier that morning.

I like the sepia colors of the needles and the pine cone. They are so typical for this time of year.
I like looking for different tracks in the snow too and trying to ID them.

Love the footprints in the snow. Butterflies are coming to Sycamore Canyon tomorrow. Australian butterflies. Can you ID any?
